The Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, on Monday described Tehran-Moscow relations as strategic, announcing that a delegation from Russia’s Energy Ministry will soon visit Tehran to finalize a project to transfer Russian gas to Iran.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Iran’s 19th International Exhibition of Raw Material, Plastics, Rubber, Machinery and Equipment, also known as IranPlast 2025, Jalali emphasized the importance of such events in fostering mutual capacities, particularly in exploring Iran and Russia market potentials.

“Unfortunately, Iranian and Russian economic players lack sufficient familiarity with their markets which rooted in limited interaction over the last 100 years,” he noted.

Highlighting the significance of Iran-Russia relations and their economic potential, Jalali said the two countries’ relation is strategic and being advanced under a signed strategic cooperation agreement with a focus on expanding collaboration.

He also identified the Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union as a key opportunity for both sides, stressing that current trade volumes fall short of the two countries’ actual capacities.

“While the public sector is responsible for policymaking, it is the private sector that must take an active role in this regard,” he said, adding that domestic obstacles must be addressed with serious determination.

On the energy cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, Jalali said Russian gas transfer to Iran was a main topic raised in recent negotiations.

“The recent visit of Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to China included discussions with the Russian president on this issue,” he said, noting that a delegation from Russia’s Energy Ministry is expected in Tehran soon to finalize these talks.”
